REGIONAL MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE CENTER

The Regional Manufacturing Excellence Center (RMEC) at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center (PWDC), has more than 5,000 square feet of shop space for conducting manufacturing training. The facility, adjacent to Thomas Nelson Community College’s Hampton Campus, opened in October 2001 to meet the local need for high tech manufacturing training. Since then, the RMEC has increased its ability to serve the region by expanding its services and training abilities to include machining, welding and HVAC courses and certifications, as well as entry level technician training.

The RMEC offers flexible manufacturing and classroom training facilities fully equipped with the most current technology and utilities including full electrical, compressed air, water, and internet connection. Power and machine tools within the RMEC include the state-of-the-art CNC HAAS ® ™, 3 and 4 axis milling machines and turning centers, as well as conventional machines including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes, drill presses, metal band saws, power hand tools and shop hand tools. It also offers work benches, lay out tools, precision measurement instruments, hydraulic and pneumatic training labs, fully facilitated with safety and air ventilating system to accommodate welding and brazing.

The PWDC is able to accommodate corporate training needs through facility usage, and is additionally able to assist expanded needs including the development of training programs taught by qualified instructors. Classrooms are also available for lectures and presentations.

In conjunction with TNCC, The RMEC offers an A.A.S. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Certificate programs available include Electrical-Mechanical Assembler, Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Technician-Troubleshooting and Repair, High Performance Manufacturing, and CNC Machining Operations. The RMEC Welding Institute offers a certificate program in welding technology.
